With a little creativity, the camera on your phone can help get you out of a jam.

Improve your looks (only marginally), boost your memory, save time and more with these simple uses for your phone’s camera.

Got spinach in your teeth? Rushing to a job interview or meeting your boyfriend’s parents on a windy day? Use your phone’s camera as a virtual mirror by snapping a photo of yourself (and fixing anything that looks amiss).

Don’t get lost in your wire maze. Your home entertainment wire maze, that is. If you are planning a move, painting in your home or just need to move your computer, TV, or home theater, take pictures of the backs of the devices to record exactly how that mess of wires is connected. The photos will get you a step closer to having all your wired electronics working again once the move is done.

Label-matching game. If you frequently make impromptu trips to the grocery store and can’t remember which brand of tomato sauce you favor, take pictures of the labels in your pantry beforehand. Photograph a group of items you need to shop for instead of writing them all down. Or text your clueless spouse an image of that exact ingredient you need more of, stat.

I’ll take this and that. Add life to your gift wish list by snapping photographs of the products you want. It will make things easier for whoever is shopping for you (just be sure not to snap a picture of the price tag!).

Navigating a parking garage. Forget about remembering the row number or level color where you parked your car. Take a few steps back and take a picture of it with the location sign in the background to help you find your vehicle later. Also works for hotel room numbers.

Keep inspiration alive. See an object—like a garden, sign or your lunch at a restaurant—that you find remarkable? Photograph it and print it out when you get home for future reference.

Supplement your direction. If family or friends have trouble following the directions to your home, take pictures of signs, intersections, or landmarks that might help them arrive on time.

Simplify your time away. While on vacation, take pictures of landmarks that will help you get back to your hotel. Or take pictures of places you didn’t have time to explore but want to see on your next trip.
