If you’re headed overseas, make sure you have the right phone for where you’re going. Any Verizon Wireless phone can automatically be used in more than 40 countries and U.S. territories, and on select cruise ships. Verizon Wireless uses CDMA network technology, so Verizon Wireless phones will work with participating carriers in other countries who operate with the same technology.

If you’re traveling internationally, use the Verizon Wireless Trip Planner to see if you have what you need.

But a large majority of the world uses an older network standard, GSM. Verizon phones that are “Global Ready™ in over 220 Countries” are set up to work on both CDMA and GSM networks. With a global phone, you can get voice service in more than 220 countries worldwide and data service in more than in 205 countries. To do so, activate the pre-installed SIM card and sign up for a Global Service plan or feature.

If you’re traveling internationally, use the Verizon Wireless Trip Planner to see if you have what you need. Just enter your destinations, the trip duration and how you’d like to keep in touch, as well as what device you hope to use, and the Trip Planner will tell you what your options are. If you don’t have the type of device you need, you can always use a global device through the Global Travel Program.
