Leaving the Family Plan Nest
It may be time to make a change and get your own plan.
Catching a ride on your parents’ phone plan is a sweet deal—at least for a while. But there comes a time when it makes sense to be on your own. When is that time?
With a Single-Line Plan, you don’t have to share minutes.
One good indicator is how often you track your collective Anytime minutes. If you’re constantly calling your sister to find out exactly where all the minutes went (so you can throw her under the bus when your parents ask the same question), it may be time to make a change. With a Single-Line Plan, you don’t have to share minutes. You know exactly how many you have and how many you’ve used—and you can dodge the evil eyes, arguments and headaches.
Or maybe your Family SharePlan includes 10 Friends & Family Calling, but you aren’t able to make use of this feature because your parents have dibs on all 10 numbers. (They’re paying for the SharePlan, after all.) With your own 900-Anytime-minutes Single-Line Plan, you can pick five numbers without having to share. Now you can save money and minutes with Friends & Family Calling, too.
If it’s time to make the switch from your Family SharePlan to your own Single-Line Plan, talk to your parents. They will need to authorize moving one of their lines to another plan.
Whatever your motivation may be for getting your own plan (whether you’ve moved into your own place, graduated from school or just nabbed your dream job), there are plenty to choose from. And your family will thank you.
